when will governments learn that further "controls" on the general populace do literally nothing, NOTHING to prevent crime, acts of terrorism, etc etc?

Gun control, various immigration control legislation, all these things serve only to hinder law abiding citizens and pose mere setbacks or "stumbling blocks" for law breaking citizens (or illegals).
